The Club Plan is basically a way to significantly reduce the cost of your birdseed. By getting a group of people together (a wild bird club for example) and pooling their orders together, it is possible to reduce freight costs, on a per pound basis, to a point where you are able to purchase product at well below local retail costs. As discussed in the Buying Tips section, you can see that the two major cost components that add to the cost of products are freight cost and markups. We bypass the normal costs associated with the retail distribution process by selling directly to you - there are no retail markups. With orders exceeding 1,500 pounds, we can obtain very favorable freight rates, which significantly reduce your delivered cost. EXAMPLE: If Black Oil Sunflower seed is selling for $11.50 per 40# bag in a national retail store, our FOB (at the plant) price will be about $5.40 per 40# bag. If you were to order 50 bags from us (2,000 pounds) and have it shipped to one location, your shipping charges would be somewhere between $100.00 and $250.00 (depending on where you live). Assume your shipping charge is $150.00 for the order, or $3.00 per bag, your delivered cost would be $8.40 per bag - a savings of $3.10 per bag or $155.00 for the total order. A savings of over 25% compared to retail prices! The typical UPS charge for one 40# bag would exceed $10.00 per bag. THINK ABOUT THIS: You may think that an order of this size is awfully big, but think about this - many serious wild bird feeders will use 50 pounds, or more, of birdseed per week during peak feeding periods. That amounts to 200 pounds per month. Therefore, ten people represent 2,000 pounds per month. For more information about obtaining prices for Club Plan orders, please go to How It Works.
