Package sizes and types
Birdseed products are available in a wide variety of package sizes and types.
The most typical packaging is either paper bags or plastic bags. Other forms
of packaging include containers such as buckets or cardboard boxes. Packaging
basically serves three basic purposes - 1) to hold and transport a given quantity
of product; 2) to provide labeling information (some required by law) about
the product; and 3) to advertise the products' features and benefits and establish
brand awareness on the retail shelf. Packaging is expensive, and is a significant
factor in the pricing of products. The fancier the packaging, the more expensive
it is. A fancy, re-closable plastic bag with four-color printing can cost twice
as much as a plain bag of the same size and strength. A plastic bucket that
will hold about 20 pounds of product can cost 10 times as much as plain paper
bag that holds the same amount. In general there are two
important things to remember about packaging - 1) the larger the package
size, the lower the packaging cost per pound of product; and 2) the fancier
the package is, the more you are going to pay for the product on a per pound
basis.
We have chosen to package our products in plain, high quality and sturdy paper
and plastic bags. Our labeling is simple, clear and straightforward. We do not
use expensive printing on our packaging. Our intent is to keep our packaging
costs as low as possible, passing those savings on to you, while insuring that
you receive your products in excellent condition and in packaging that will
stand up to rough handling.
